How to Rank Videos for YouTube

By

In this article I share how I get my 650 videos ranked in my YouTube channel.
I recently attended a TV presenters course at Pinewood Studios where they produced all the Harry Potter and James Bond films (it was awesome). During the course we were told that the BBC has seven fulltime people just scouring YouTube to discover talent and possible programmes.
YouTube is the second most powerful search engine and companies and individuals who know how to use it are reaping the profits.
It is a great way to build your brand, promote products and services and for search engine optimization it is perfect.
The challenge is that companies are now becoming adept at producing great videos, but they generate very few views.
Take a look at the new Evian Babies video that generated 57 million views in 3 months, now sitting on 97 million views
Here are the important factors that YouTube take into consideration in ranking your videos and resulting in more views.
  • Keywords in the title - this is the most important place for you to get your main key phrase that will be found by Google & YouTube

  • Keywords in the description - use the same keywords here plus add some more. Have a comprehensive description as well as a link back to your website using the full website address

  • Keywords in the tags - here you can put a number of tags as well as those suggested by YouTube

  • Incoming Links - YouTube loves incoming links, so get followers to embed, share and link back to your videos. You must also do the same and have links from your website and blog.

  • Time watched (new) - very important, have great content and tell them in the first few seconds why they should be watching the video

  • Total video views - have a call to action at the end of every video where you encourage your audience to like/comment and subscribe to your channel

  • Total likes & dislikes

  • Total embeds

  • Total shares

  • Total playlists it is added to - create different playlists based on the content, this makes it easy for views to find the video

  • Subscribers - always have a call to action encouraging viewers to subscribe to your channel

  • Total channel views

  • Flags - it counts against you if someone has flagged a video for some infringement

  • Comments

  • Category choice - ensure you choose the right category and choose a compelling thumbnail
My channel is called salestips and has 650 videos with 6,000 subscribers and over 3 million views. I have also found that it is important to kick-start your videos and for the important videos I will pay to get them past those critical benchmarks of 300 and 2,000 views .

Some ideas for kick starting your videos:
Video for AdWords - I normally have a budget of £10
Virool - here I have a budget of $25
If you follow these ideas you will see your channel grow quickly.
