What Is New SEO?

By

Old Meets New SEO
  • Links: Backlinks are still important - very important actually - especially if you can get them from a reliable source such as a.gov or.edu website. But these days a link can travel between your site and another through a simple retweet, pin or "like" on Facebook, and any of these will also help your cause because it shows the virality and "shareability" of your content. Basically it shows that more people are seeing and sharing your content and there's obviously a reason why (more about this below).

  • Quality: If you have a guest blogger who is an authority in his field write for your site, chances are people will read it and spread the good word. There's nothing uncanny about this - Google understands that the cream floats to the top, and they'll repay you for it when you play along. Quality content doesn't have to be revolutionary for someone to read it, but it should be well thought out and include a few key elements that make your readers want to come back for more every time.

  • Relevance: Using the right keyword or keyphrase for your blog means writing about that keyword or keyphrase, not just using it and trying to fit it somewhere.Keyword stuffing is a big no-no, and it's definitely not apart of the rules of "New SEO". If you find that you're using awkward or off-topic keywords that aren't relevant to your industry, you may need to do more research.
Paid Social Media
If you're in the early stages of your SEO strategy, and you have a lot of money to throw at a marketing company, you may be tempted to pay for social media sharing to get on Google's first page sooner. This is not a bad idea.
Ever since Facebook started paid advertising in social media, it's become clear that along with a social media campaign, continually updated blog and press releases and researched keywords, paid links are a good way to bolster a pay-per-click (PPC) campaign.
The key to incorporating social media in your New SEO campaign is not to spit out rapid-fire updates; it's establishing an audience that cares about what you have to say. Remember that your social media posts are an extension of your blog content and your company's identity branding, so you want it all to work off one another. You don't want people to be annoyed and ignore your updates. Think quality first; that way when you do post, people will pay attention and actually read them. Once they start reading your social media posts, the next step is getting users to share them. And once users share your posts, you're poised to launch an effective paid social media campaign.
The Bottom Line
Both the "New SEO" and paid social media are factors in how a company goes about its digital branding. But ultimately, an online marketing company should supplement high quality content and social media with a paid social campaign. The next time you see blog posts touting a "New SEO," remember that old is the new new.
